I did it!! I finished the Chicago Mara thon on October 22nd in 4 hours and 49 minutes! I was really nervous before the race but luckily my training worked ( Mara thoning for Mortals) and the nearly 5 hours of running really was a lot of fun! Over 33,000 people finished the race, making it was a spectacular event. From the start gun, it took my pace group over 20 minutes just to cross the starting line! Chicago is an amazing city (nice and flat too!) and on my 26.2 miles I saw over 20 neighborhoods including Boy's Town (picture male cheerleaders and synchronized dances), China Town, Little Italy, Little Mexico and everywhere in between. With 1.5 million spectators, the crowd support was awesome! I won't lie - it was pretty miserable from mile 23 to the finish and even worse trying to walk back to the hotel afterwards. However, even with the pain, I would recommend the experience to anyone! I am so happy with the generosity of my supporters and that these donations will help the people of ! As it turns out, this fundraiser is particularly apropos because the first non-native settler in Chicago in 1776 was a Haitian (Jean Baptiste Point du Sable)! If you haven’t donated yet, it’s not too late to help me reach my goal!! Thanks again for the encouragement and support! Original Message:

Several months ago Rebecca and I decided that we should run a marathon together (this will be my first and Rebecca's second). And although we may have had too much wine when we thought this would be a good idea, we are registered to run the next Chicago Marathon (26.2 miles) on October 22 and have been training since March. To add incentive and meaning to our ambitious goal we have decided to use this occasion to help people in Haiti who are in need. I spent nearly 5 years in with the Peace Corps and later with Haitian Ministries and Rebecca visited me during this time. We both were very much touched by our experiences there and the kindness and generosity of people that had so very little. Haiti is the poorest country in our hemisphere with limited opportunities for education and employment (both around 50%). It is a place where people can make a real difference in the lives of others. By running our marathon, we hope to extend our miles to our friends in Haiti with your help. Your tax-deductible donation will support Haitian-initiated projects like orphanages, meal programs, and clinics as well as educational scholarships and microcredit loans to small entrepreneurs in Haiti . You can donate directly through this website or through this link: http://www.guidestar.org/partners/networkforgood/donate.jsp?ein=04-3787762 both of which are totally secure. You can also mail in your donation to Haitian Ministries, 1595 Norwich New London Tnpk, Uncasville, CT 06382 . Your generosity and support will push us through our 26.2 miles in Chicago and will provide opportunities for those with so little in Haiti. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! Best wishes and many thanks! Amber and Rebecca
