ABC’s 2010 waddle will be held in the Village of Chittenango (just east of Syracuse), the birthplace of Frank Baum, the author of the Wizard of Oz. This year marks the 32nd year of Oz-Stravaganza, the longest running Oz festival in the USA. ABC has been told that 4 of the original munchkins and the actress that was the fill-in for Dorothy will be in attendance. ABC will once again be a part of this great event, come and join ABC as we waddle down “The Yellow Brick Road”.
ABC’s Basset Hound Waddle plays a critical role in putting animal rescue efforts into the public spotlight and is one of our largest fundraising events of the year. So, come out with ABC and help support this great breed…there will be games, prizes, shopping and of course, food! Spend an enjoyable weekend with friends, family and basset hounds. We will waddle rain or shine. We will have tents, should the weather not meet our hound’s expectations. The world famous & largest online basset e-tailer, the Slobber Shoppe will be on hand peddling distinct basset wares for fellow hound lovers. Last year ABC had over 200 hounds…. this year ABC is looking for over 300 hounds to march down “The Yellow Brick Road” in Chittenango, NY and be a part of history…the longest running Oz-Festival in the country…32 years!
A Waddle, What’s That?
A waddle is an event ABC puts on to help raise awareness and money to rescue homeless, unwanted and neglected basset hounds. The average cost to ABC in 2009 was $350 per dog. Last year alone, ABC spent almost $35,000 in vet bills!
It’s a lot of fun and exciting to see hundreds of basset hounds all in one place participating and waddling in the Oz-Stravaganza parade! However, let’s not forget what allows us to continue to rescue these homeless and unwanted hounds….YOU!! All of YOU who have volunteered your time, opened up your home for a foster, adopted a dog, and given financial support; this is what allows us to be successful!! With your generosity, ABC has rescued, vetted and adopted out over 600 basset hounds since January 2001…. all bills paid!
