As you may, or may not know, my sister, Brooke Cambron Stewart, died at 2.5 days old. Brooke had hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
In hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), the heart’s left side — including the aorta, aortic valve, left ventricle and mitral valve — is underdeveloped.
In HLHS, blood returning from the lungs must flow through an opening in the wall between the atria (atrial septal defect). The right ventricle pumps the blood into the pulmonary artery and blood reaches the aorta through a patent ductus arteriosus.
This heart defect is usually fatal within the first days or month of life unless it’s treated.
This defect isn’t correctable, but now some babies can be treated with a series of operations, or heart transplantation. This was not the case 28 years ago!
My goal is to raise $100,000.00 to name a room in the Riley Hospital for Children, Simon Family Tower in honor of Brooke! The funds raised will benefit the Newborn Intensive Care Unit!
Any support is greatly appreciated! Please forward on to friends and family.
If your organization is intersted in hosting a fundraiser please contact me for more information!
Thanks again for helping to honor a beautiful sister, daughter, and granddaughter.
