My personal message:

Support Development of special transportation safety equipment for Children with Special Healthcare Needs

We know Child Passenger Safety is important to you.

Car Safety Restraints and Booster Seats are important life savers. Children ride safer every day when car safety restraints are used correctly. However, for some young children who have health conditions, such as an omphalocele, or who require monitors or oxygen, riding safely is a challenge.  Their alternate mode of safe transportation is either a car safety bed or an altered harness system.

Several years ago the production of the car safety bed that could transport children who weigh greater than 20 pounds was discontinued and the supply of these car safety beds has now been exhausted.  Likewise, a special harness system to accommodate children with an omphalocele and restraint systems to secure oxygen canisters and monitors are not available.

The National Center for the Safe Transportation of Children with Special Healthcare Needs collaborated with engineers to design a replacement for the discontinued car safety bed.   A new manufacturer, The Hope Special Needs Products, LLC, agreed to begin manufacturing the car safety bed when capital is available.  Hope Special Needs Products also agreed to design the special harness and medical equipment restraint systems.

The National Center for the Safe Transportation of Children with Special Healthcare Needs initiated this capital-raising effort because there is an urgency to have a car safety bed brought to market for children weighing 3.5 to 35 pounds. There is also the need to have the child special harness and medical equipment restraint systems made available.  We all want to ensure children with specific medical conditions are transported safely. The National Center is neutral on the manufacturing of car safety products; however, there are no other options for the development of these products.

NOW is the time to act to support passenger safety for all children. The Riley Children’s Foundation has agreed to help in raising capital for these transportation safety products.  Nearly 1/2 of the needed amount has been raised, thus far, from these on-line contributions, corporate, and other foundation donations.  However, donations are still needed.  You have the opportunity to help the Riley Children's Foundation meet their final goal in this capital-raising effort.

WHY support the manufacture of larger car safety beds and the altered harness system? Each year, nationally over 200 families and children with special healthcare needs require a larger car safety bed. Also, each year 1 child in every 5,000 births will be born with a small omphalocele.  With your donation, the Hope Special Needs Products can manufacture and test the larger car safety bed and other medical restraint systems so we all can safely transport children with special healthcare needs.
                                   So, please Donate Now.

Looking for a Special way to donate? If you would like to recognize a family member, a friend, a co-worker by sending a donation, please contact Riley Children’s Foundation at kidsafety@rileykids.org.
Your donation will mean a child with special healthcare needs travels safely everyday of the year.

The Children with Special Healthcare Needs thank you!
