Our personal message:
I'm running the 2008 Boston Marathon (April 21) to raise money to build wells in Africa.  This is a once in a life time opportunity for me, so if you've ever wanted to help out, now is the time to do it!

Any donation amount is a great help.  For ideas, I need to raise $200 per mile run, $100 for a half mile,  or $50 for a quarter mile.

THE GOAL
Being a runner, I know how important water is.  Whenever I need it, I just fill up a bottle with clear, clean water, and go. But in several places in Africa, its just not that way- their 'marathon' is there- trudging miles to a muddy stream- but the clean water is not. But you and I can help!

MORE TIME: Often there are no nearby water sources, so people spend upwards of 8 hours a day, basically a full time job, in getting water. Imagine yourself in their shoes!  If we can help them have local wells, they can use that time to work, be with their families, grow crops, or actually have some free time.

BETTER HEALTH: River blindness is a very common problem in many areas- but through healthy water in places like northern Ghana, they've almost eradicated this once widespread disease.  The company I worked for donated the funds to build an entire water project in northern Ghana in '06.

WATER IS THE KEY: The goal isn't just to give people handouts- the goal of World Vision is to help people build a strong, stable community.  A community with water has people who will have the time and energy to farm their crops, raise animals, get an education, and worship if they choose.  We have an amazing opportunity to make an immediate impact.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH WORLD VISION: Its a great organization.  My great-uncle is the former president of World Vision in the Philippines. Krista, as a member of The Darins, is a former World Vision Artist.  As a family, the Lords helped raise $25,000 to build an HIV health clinic in Swaziland in 2006.  Even though I'm running Boston, I'm helping to lead the volunteer effort for Team World Vision Nashville and the Country Music Marathon.
