My personal message:

Delaware Kenya Association - Youth Entrepreneurship Center

In December 2007, Kenya witnessed widespread post-election violence following disputed elections results. By February 2008, thousands of Kenyans were displaced from their homes and rendered Internally Displaced People (IDPs), over 1,500 were killed, homes, schools, and businesses were burned down, and the peace that Kenya had enjoyed for years was forever shaken. While many people were responsible for the chaos and violence,  Kenya’s unemployed youth made up the majority of those causing mayhem.

A home gifted to the Delaware Kenya Association in Kabete Constituency outside of Nairobi by a Kenyan couple, Mr. & Mrs. Githendu now living in Delaware could not have come at a better time. Our organization has embarked on a project to transform the home into a model Youth Entrepreneurship Center that will provide a unique career training experience designed to expose Kenya’s unemployed youth to the opportunities associated with entrepreneurship. Our goal is to create a center whose model will be replicated in other parts of Kenya to combat the rising trend of unemployed youth.

Our organization’s project is inspired by the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aimed at eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. To achieve this overwhelming task, we hope to raise the necessary funds through specific fundraising events, individual and corporate giving, and partnerships with other organizations.

We invite you to help us build this Youth Entrepreneurship Center and help bring hope to Kenya’s unemployed youth.
