Since the War on Cancer was declared in 1971, significant advances have been made in the chemical, radiological, and surgical approaches to cancer treatment, and awareness of the risk factors of cancer has continued to grow. Today, many people diagnosed with cancer are living longer, healthier, happier lives as a result. 

Unfortunately, for many cancer patients, chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery aren’t enough. Despite the advances in these kinds of treatment, cancer continues to claim the lives of more than 1,500 people a day in the United States alone.

We urgently need a new approach to cancer treatment. World-leading scientists believe our best hope is in learning how to harness the vast power of the immune system to destroy cancer.

Since 1953, the Cancer Research Institute (CRI) has supported and coordinated laboratory and clinical efforts that will lead to the immunological treatment, control, and prevention of cancer. Thanks to the generosity of its donors, the Institute is able to fund research in the fields of immunology and tumor immunology at top universities and medical treatment centers throughout the world. 

CRI researchers are unlocking the secrets of the immune system and are learning how to apply this knowledge to create cancer vaccines and antibody therapies that will benefit people with cancer. With your help, the Cancer Research Institute can continue to advance immunology to conquer cancer.
