Hi!
Thanks for taking a look at my page for the BARCC Walk for Change. I have been interning at BARCC since September '09 I have really seen and felt the difference that it makes in people's lives. I have loved my time there, the passion of the people I work with and the work that I have been able to do.
As the only rape crisis center in the greater Boston area and the biggest in Massachusetts BARCC reaches people that often feel very alone and isolated. Here are some facts about what we do.
• 24-hour hotline crisis counseling. Our diverse group of trained counselors responds to more than 3,000 callers each year.
• Individual and group counseling for more than 300 survivors and their families annually.
• Medical advocacy, 24-hour, seven-day-a-week hospital emergency room accompaniment for more than 300 victims of sexual assault and their families per year
• BARCC’s legal advocacy program serves 250-300 clients per year, providing consultation and assistance with housing, economic, insurance, and immigration concerns.
• Case management. BARCC provides ongoing assistance related to issues that often arise as a result of sexual violence including medical follow-up, immigration, insurance, finances, and housing.
• Community Awareness and Prevention Services (CAPS). Staff and volunteers in our CAPS program provide outreach, education, and training to more than 4,000 people each year at local colleges, high schools, middle schools, businesses, public events, professional conferences, and other speaking engagements.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Thank you so much for any support you can offer through walking, donating or both! Every dollar makes a difference.
"In the United States, 1 in 6 women and 1 in 33 men reported experiencing an attempted or completed rape at some time in their lives."
"In Massachusetts alone, 4,418 adolescents and adults are sexually assaulted each year - that’s 12 people each day and one every two hours."
