Calling All Outdoor Enthusiasts!
The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation invites you to join the Great Pennsylvania Outdoor Challenge (GPOC)
If you have postponed some of your favorite outdoor activites, wait no longer. Join us as we collectively hike, bike, paddle, and walk all 30,000 miles of trails in Pennsylvania! Well, we may not actually be on the trails, but virtually, we will travel them as we log our daily miles in all that we do and in all of our play!
The GPOC offers a way for you to not only enjoy the great outoors in Pennsylvania, but also to raise funds for parks, forests, trails and more!
There are three ways to participate:
- Decide how many miles you can do in the course of the month and register for a $25 donation
- Decide on your miles (or create a personal challenge), register for a $25 donation, then recruit others to support you in your fundraising goal by creating your own Online Fundraising Page.
- Donate to the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation by clicking the DONATE button to the right
Click the Get Started button to register your challenge and/or to create your personal webpage and get started raising funds! To help you track your miles, visit www.Paparksandforests.org/gpoc to download your activity log. Remember to take pictures, we'd love to see where you have been! To help you reach your goal, we have events taking place all over the state--go to our website to view the activity calendar! Or you can simply walk in your neighborhood--it's that simple! It's all about getting outdoors.
All participants receive a GPOC bandana and are eligible for great prizes.
The Great Pennsylvania Outdoor Challenge takes place September 11, 2009-October 11, 2009 in honor of Maurice K Goddard, who is known as the father of the Pennsylvania Park System. His vision for a park within 25 miles of every Pennsylvania resident gave Pennsylvanian's the gift of 117 parks--one near each of us! Combine that with our 2.1 million acres of forest and WOW, we are rich in outdoor resources.
While we love our parks and forests, they need our help..financially through our support and physically through volunteer efforts. The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation links people to our state owned lands through education, recreation, and volunteerism, to help bridge the gap between state funded operations and projects that make our parks and forests better for all to enjoy. And as the Lorax said, we need to speak for the trees...our parks and forests face a budget shortfall, and your voice can make a difference in the battle to keep our parks and forests open for all to enjoy.
Help create a legacy of stewardship for state parks and foresrts by joining us in the Great Pennsylvania Outoor Challenge.
